Unit 6

1.  Practice the universal Loving Kindness (meditation) exercise on p. 93.

2.  Complete the Integral Assessment discussed in chapter 11 (p.115).

3.  Describe the exercise and assessment process. What did you discover about yourself? What area have you chosen to be a focus of growth and development? Why? What are some specific exercises or activities that you can implement to foster greater wellness in this area?

To be honest, it is very hard to do the exercise and assessment.  My life is so hectic right now with projects, exercises, work, family, etc.  I can sit and listen to a cd or recording much better.  I do know that my personal relationship is an issue in my life right now.  I’m torn as to what I should do.  I know what my mind tells me but I also know what my heart tells me.  It will take a little more time and some and some other issues to fall in place.  I am keeping the peace and not being brought down by negativity.  I have a job and a mission in life that I must maintain.

  1. Scott,
I feel as though my life is hectic right now as well, so much school work and work and young kids etc, it gets so old so fast. I wish you an outlet where some of this stress and burden can fall off of your shoulders. The exercise I did made me think of my grandma, she was so selfless and so loving and when I get really crazy overwhelmed, I go an sit and think of her and it really calms me down. Good Luck Scott, hopefully things fall into place for you soon and the peace can maintain.

  2. I can empathize with you as far as it being hard to do some of the exercises and assessments. I too am one that is "blessed" with a hectic life. I currently have 3 "adults" and 3 children living in my home and now 4 cats. My life is filled with running children to and from school, activities, doing "mandatory volunteer" hours at the school, a full time job working third shift and class work for two "writing intense classes". I often find it hard to even justify taking 5-10 minutes to relax and listen to a CD or the recordings we have listened to for guided meditation.

When I did my assessment I was and was not surprised to find that I was off balanced in 3 out of 4 of the areas of my life. I haven't done a personal assessment in a very long time outside of the parts we've done for class.

It can be very easy to allow negativity to set in and take a hold, especially when personal life and relationships are involved. I am glad that you aren't allowing it to "spill" into other areas of your life.

How do you find the time to relax and find peace in such a hectic life? I hope to keep trying to "sneak" and "justify 5-10 minutes where I can for "me" time in order to relax and refresh so I can re-balance more portions of my life. I don't think I will ever have perfect balance, but I hope to be better than 1/4th of my life in balance.

I wish you the best of luck!
