Unit 4 Blog

Describe your experience. Did you find it beneficial? Difficult? Why or why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or why not?

I found it very relaxing.  I've done yoga before and just something about a person whose voice can relax you so much.  It is almost like a dream state and when you come out of it you feel like you have had good nap.  I also recommend things to people that has helped me.

What is the concept of "mental workout"? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a mental workout? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health?

Mental workouts can help a person to be prepared for upcoming events.  We used to run through mission prep from just speaking to each other and it was amazing that you could picture everything in motion.  That is when you knew you had the mission in your head.  If you can think it then you can do it.  Where the mind goes the body shall follow.

20 JAN 13 - Unit 3

1.  Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?

a.       Physical well-being:  8 – At 47 and after 20 years in the Army and 8 years of rugby after I retired from the army, I’m doing pretty well.  I can still move around with the best of them and better than most of the younger people.  I’ve had a few surgeries but it only slowed me down.

b.      Spiritual Well-being:  7 – I’m at peace with myself and my beliefs.  I truly belief that I am in control of my future and my destiny.  Nothing s written in stone and can always change.

c.       Psychological well-being:  7 – Compared to what most soldiers go through after being in conflict, I’m doing great.  I believe in myself and I don’t let the small things get to me.  I try to stay ahead of any issues and make life as simple as I can.

2.   Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).

My goal is to still be doing the things that I am doing now until the die I die.  I never want to quit.  I may slow down but I will never quit.  The day I can’t move is the day that it is time to go to the next chapter.

3.   What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?

I think that any exercise or activities will help moving to the next goal.  Every little bit helps.  I do believe that “A body in Motion, Stys in Motion.”

4.   Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century. To hear this exercise, click here.
Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)

It was very relaxing. Don’t know if I fell asleep because I had been doing some work or if it was because of the talk.  My mind was all over the place but was so calm.
